The Lake Michigan coastline is one of the most stunning places in the country, and we’re lucky to have 12 miles of it at our front door. Whatever your ideal beach day is, it can begin right here.
Oval Beach. Recognized as one of Condé Nast Traveler’s Top 25 Beaches in the World, National Geographic Traveler’s Top Freshwater Beaches in the USA, and MTV’s Top 5 Beaches in the USA.
Parking: $10/day, $50/season.
Or ride the chain ferry or Interurban bus for $1.
Free from Labor Day to Memorial Day.
Saugatuck Dunes State Park. Get back to nature in this state-owned park, featuring 2.5 miles of secluded beach and 200-ft wooded dunes.
Parking: State park permit or day-use fee required.
West Side County Park. Pavilions, picnic areas, playgrounds, boardwalks along the beach, and restrooms make it easy to entertain.
Parking: Limited, free.
Douglas Beach. A quiet, cozy neighborhood beach that’s inlaid with trees along the waterline.
Parking: Very limited, free.
Laketown Beach. This secluded, peaceful strip of sand, water, and views is for anyone open to the challenge of climbing 350 stairs up and down to the beach.
Parking: Limited, free.
Pier Cove Beach. Named for the shipping piers that supported the logging and fruit industry in the 1800s, the shoreline features smooth stones for skipping in the waves.
