Top 5 Spots for Waterfront Dining

Looking for dinner and drinks with a waterfront view? Check out these casual spots which feature different menu specialties while serving up spectacular views.

Mermaid Waterfront Bar and Grill

Promoting boat-to-table fare like fresh fish and seafood, Mermaid is a dockside eatery with outdoor patio seating overlooking the Kalamazoo River. While their seafood entrees are the stars of their menu—don’t miss their Crab & Lobster Roll—Mermaid also serves up some flavor-packed salads like their Salmon Superfood Salad and Beet & Goat Cheese Salad that are light and refreshing.

The Butler

Home to the famous Butler Burger, The Butler and The Butler Deck offer waterfront dining with spectacular views of the Lake Kalamazoo harbor and boardwalk. The restaurant features a wide selection of casual American food, but getting a burger here is part of the quintessential Saugatuck experience. Memorial Day through Labor Day, visitors can be treated to live entertainment on the Deck.

The BARge

Located in the heart of downtown Saugatuck, The BARge offers outdoor and open-air seating along the waterfront. Because of their unique location on the Kalamazoo River, boaters are welcome to pull their boats up to the seawall and stop in for drinks or a meal. Serving up traditional bar food, their menu features jumbo chicken wings with 11 different sauces, a number of handheld favorites, and pizza pies made to order.

The Southerner

Southern-style dishes and cocktails are served up with a side of southern hospitality at this relaxed lakeside venue where every seat has a wonderful view. Touting itself as a fried chicken joint, The Southerner’s breakfasts and other lunch and dinner entrees are equally as outstanding. While their incredibly juicy fried chicken is indeed worth the trip, no visit here would be complete without trying their amazing biscuits accompanied by honey butter. Or combine the best of both worlds with a Chicken Biscuit Sandwich that can be served mild or Nashville hot.

The Coral Gables

Nestled in downtown Saugatuck on two-and-a-half blocks of beautiful waterfront, The Coral Gables features something for everyone. Built in 1906, The Coral Gables complex is one of the oldest family-owned restaurant and bar sites in the state. A favorite of locals and visitors alike, The Coral Gables features waterfront indoor and outdoor dining along with live music. Their menu offering is large and varied, but their specialty is their Lake Perch—try it as an entrée or in sandwich form.
