The Owner/Innkeepers, Jan and Gary Kemp are a gregarious team who enjoy their guests and express it through their unpretentious, warm hospitality. Jan excels at interior design, cooking and gardening while Gary acts as the Inn’s caretaker/concierge.
Normally Jan spends a good deal of her energies on culinary pursuits, but due to COVID-19 precautions Full breakfasts are currently NOT being served. However, each guest is provided an assortment of Continental breakfast items and snack treats that can be eaten throughout the day. Coffee and tea are always available and juice and bottled water are provided in the suite’s small fridge.
Guests can relax in their own section of the Inn's seasonal front porch, in the privacy of their suite or on their own private porch with swing, while staying in the Old Harbor suite. Marywoods’ perennial garden is a kaleidoscope of cascading flowers, plush green lawn and lovely plantings. It is a wonderful place to sit and watch the darting hummingbirds and butterflies. There are several secluded nooks with seating, ideal for private conversations over a glass of wine, or where guests can admire a large arbor draped with orange flowered trumpet vine; or enjoy a peaceful moment by the tiny lily pond or fountains. It really shows when innkeepers love their work.
Jan and Gary also rent two outstanding cottages for families and groups who want more privacy, wish to do some of their own cooking or want more family time together. Jan’s Cottage is a cute, Mediterranean decorated 2B/1B cottage located just across the street from the Inn. There is a lovely private slate patio with chiminea, off the master bedroom and a large side yard. It’s ideal for a romantic couple’s stay or a family vacation with small children.
Treehouse Cottage is a historic 3B/2B Riverfront Cottage located just a few blocks from downtown. It sits high above the river and the large screened porch provides incredible views of boat traffic. It also has a new 40 ft dock with adjoining deck and large yard at the river level for those who wish to fish or keep their canoe, kayak or power boat at the cottage. There is a fabulous hot tub also overlooking the river. All are guaranteed to provide you a comfortable, relaxed environment in Lake Michigan's finest small beach town.
