Mary Porter Taylor was the hard-working and long-suffering wife of James Franklin Taylor, who served as the pastor of the First Congregational Church of Saugatuck from 1868 to 1877. For this Tuesday Talk, Toni Perrine will examine two letters Mary wrote to her sister, Harriet Porter Mills, to unpack the news Mary shared with her sister and create a snapshot of a woman’s life during this transitional period in the history of Saugatuck, the state and the nation.

This event will be held in the 2nd floor gallery at the History Center in Douglas, 130 Center Street, Douglas at 11am. The one-hour program begins when the school bell rings at 11 a.m.

A summertime tradition since 1996, SDHC’s weekly Tuesday Talks present entertaining and informative insights into local and regional life and history throughout July and August.

Tuesday Talks are free for SDHC members; non-members are asked for a suggested donation of $5 per person.
