Happy New Year from Saugatuck/Douglas! There’s lots to look forward to in 2020, and we hope that a trip to our region is included in your plans. Keep these major events in mind while planning your getaways this year:

Spring

February 15: Wassail at Virtue Cider

Come bless the orchards for this 5th annual event at Virtue Cider. Expect music, food, bonfires and merriment.

March 18 – 28: Real to Reel Film Festival featuring Mountainfilm On Tour: Saugatuck

Explore the Art Coast of Michigan in a new way during this annual festival featuring 3 venues, 65 films, outdoor adventures, live music, pop-up shopping, local food, craft brews, art exhibitions, artist talks and more.

May 9 -10: Artz & Gardenz Tour

Join talented artists, skilled growers and gardeners on this free driving tour of seven unique stops throughout the Saugatuck/Douglas, Hamilton and Fennville countryside.

May 2 – 10: Tulip Time Festival

Heralded as America’s Best Small-Town Festival, Tulip Time is dedicated to honoring Holland, Michigan’s Dutch heritage, showcasing millions of tulips, and celebrating the community today. Located just 15 minutes north of Saugatuck/Douglas, expect local entertainment, world-renowned Dutch Dancers, artisan markets, fireworks and more.

Summer

June 20: Town Crier Races: 5k, 10k & Half Marathon

Explore the beauty of the lakeshore on foot at the Town Crier Races. Offering a 5k, 10k and half marathon course, there’s something for every runner. Each runner’s accomplishments are celebrated here – expect a cheering section whether you brought your own or not.

July 4 – 6: 4th of July Weekend

There’s no shortage of fun in Saugatuck/Douglas during 4th of July weekend (or week, for that matter). Events take place throughout the weekend, including shows and exhibits at the Saugatuck Center for the Arts, the annual 4th of July Parade, the Waterfront Festival, and more.

July 24 – 25: Venetian Weekend

This family-friendly festival takes place in downtown Saugatuck featuring a new theme each year. The 2020 theme will be Las Vegas. Each year’s event has live music, food and bar tents, a boat race, a lighted boat parade, fireworks and more.

August 7-9: Big Lake Classic Fishing Tournament

Fishers – this is the weekend you’ll want to be in Saugatuck! Try your luck at catching the biggest fish, and enjoy some fun on the big lake and in downtown Saugatuck/Douglas. The Captain’s Meeting, weigh-in and awards ceremony all take place at Coral Gables in Downtown Saugatuck.

Fall

September 11 – 13: Lambda Auto Show

Lambda Car Club International is the largest collector car club in North America for LGBTQ people and their friends and allies. With 32 active regions throughout the U.S., Saugatuck/Douglas is proud to host the show each year.

September 12: Mt. Baldhead Challenge

Push yourself to the limit with the ultimate multi-terrain race. See the lakeshore in a new way with this race, where you’ll trek trails, roads, stairs, sand and more.

October 10 – 11: Fall Gallery Stroll

This is the weekend to explore the Art Coast of Michigan – all art galleries and artist studios are open with extended hours and fun extras like live music, food and fun.

October 31: Douglas Halloween Parade for Adults

Halloween isn’t just for the kids in Saugatuck/Douglas. Each year, thousands of people gather in downtown Douglas for an adults-only Halloween parade!

Winter

December 5: Saugatuck’s Christmas Parade & Tree Lighting

Kick off the holiday season by attending Saugatuck’s Annual Christmas Parade held downtown. Annual events take place around the parade, such as Santa’s workshop, a Christmas Bazaar and more.

December 31: New Year’s Eve Fireworks

Ring in the New Year on December 31 at the docks of Coral Gables for a stunning firework display over the Kalamazoo river. Enjoy parties, live music and specials at local bars and restaurants.
