The 42nd Annual Saugatuck/Douglas Annual Fall Gallery Stroll
Going into it’s 42nd year, the Annual Fall Gallery Stroll, will take place October 12 & 13 in Saugatuck/Douglas. Galleries along the Art Coast of Michigan will extend their hours into the evening, offering delicious local bites, refreshments, live music, featured exhibits & artist interaction. Anticipated by locals and visitors alike, this event is truly a tradition in the Saugatuck/Douglas communities.
With more than 20 galleries and artist studios participating, you’ll find a wide range of artwork from local, regional and national artists spanning mediums that range from contemporary paintings to found material sculptures. Stroll leisurely from one unique gallery to the next, taking in the picturesque streets of downtown Saugatuck and Douglas.
But this event is more than just gallery hopping. Each gallery or artist studio offers their own little something extra, including live music, snacks, drinks and artist demonstrations or talks, creating an exciting vibe and energy that attracts the up-and-coming crowd and established art patrons alike.
A tradition since 1977, the fall gallery stroll began with a core group of Saugatuck/Douglas art galleries, including J. Petter Galleries, Cain Gallery, Amaru Leather and Gold Beaters. Headed by Joyce Petter (original owner of J. Petter Galleries), the group’s inspiration came from the gallery strolls Petter saw while traveling in Boston. Since, the fall gallery stroll has grown and evolved into the what is now known as the premier arts weekend of the year in Saugatuck/Douglas.
Whether you’re an art aficionado or not, there’s no better way to spend an autumn weekend than by strolling through the downtowns of Saugatuck and Douglas. For more information on the Fall Gallery Stroll, call the Saugatuck/Douglas Area Welcome Center at 269-857-1701.
