Description
“There’s no such thing as silence. Something is always happening that makes a sound.” – John Cage Rooted in this quote by American composer and music theorist John Cage, Justin’s Hempy performance titled, “This Liquid Drift of Light”, counters the doldrums of winter by focusing on the often unnoticed rhythms hidden in the expanse of the cold quietude. The program features works for solo piano by Gabriel Araújo, Nina Shekhar, Eve de Castro-Robinson, Anna Korsun, and Thomas Larcher, all which contemplate the ‘silence’ of winter – the song of a snow drift, the glacial rhythms of ice melting, and the ever-shifting harmonies of gray.
