About this Sculpture

  • Artist: Gert Olsen
  • Medium: Tennessee Cedar Marble
  • Size: 40" x 11" x 67"

Sculptor Gert Olsen is Denmark, immigrated to Canada and then to the US where he became a citizen.

Olsen started as a woodcarver and  experimented with various materials and methods of carving. After many years of cabinetry and wood sculptures, Gert’s work evolved into stone carving which he has been doing for 25 years. His sculptures are seen in galleries and art collections around the world.

“I work with the natural texture and color of the stone to create representative sculpture of animals, human forms and abstract shapes”.

Olsen traveled to Italy many times  and hand selected the Carrara marble. He also works in other stone. Gert cuts and shapes with modern saws and cutters, then refines the forms with traditional carving equipment, including chisels.
