Along for the Ride

Saugatuck and Douglas are both extremely bike-friendly, welcoming bicycles throughout their downtowns.

Biking from one town to the other is a breeze when you use the bike lane along the Blue Star Highway. If you’re an avid biker and looking for something a little more than just a quick jaunt between our towns, here are a few trails and recreation areas to try out:

Blue Star Trail

This paved trail offers a smooth ride along the side of the Blue Star Highway, out of the way of cars and trucks.

Shore Acres

Located right next to Saugatuck Dunes State Park and The Felt Mansion, this is a fun park for mountain bikers to explore.

Beeline Trail

The fastest route between Saugatuck and Holland will let you explore both cities with a 24-mile round-trip. Zip up, have lunch there and be back here before dinner.

Beach to Bayou Trail

Short but sweet (less than 2 miles), this trail starts or ends at Wade’s Bayou on Kalamazoo Lake and runs down Center Street through downtown Douglas until you hit the waters of Lake Michigan at Lakeshore Drive.

Holland Metro Trails

Explore this network of paved trails that interweave throughout Holland and extend to the Saugatuck Dunes State Park, where you can park your bike and go on a hike. These trails not only link Zeeland, Holland, and Saugatuck, but they also provide nearly 200 miles of trails within the greater area for bikers to explore. Parking and restrooms can be found at Saugatuck Dunes State Park.

Kal-Haven Trail State Park

20 minutes south of Saugatuck, you’ll find this 34-mile trail that connects the city of South Haven to Kalamazoo.

Don’t have your own bike with you? Big Lake Outfitters and In The Elements Rental make it easy to rent and ride while you’re here.
