Ways to Wine
Whether you like to rosé all day or find that any time is fine for sparkling wine, we have a multitude of ways to enjoy a glass or two.
Taste the distinct flavors that can only come from Michigan’s Fruit Belt and the Fennville and Lake Michigan Shore AVAs (American Viticultural Areas). With four wineries that call our area home, you can make an entire day of sampling different red, white, sparkling, and fruit wines unique to our region. Our wineries include Michigan Wine Co., Crane’s Winery, Fenn Valley Vineyards & Winery, and Modales Wines. Featuring small-batch expertise and artistry, these local wineries produce award-winning wines from estate-grown and locally-harvested grapes. With a different ambiance and unique selection of wine at each, you’ll need to visit them all to fully appreciate the quality of Southwest Michigan wines.
For an even more memorable experience, explore the art of winemaking with a behind-the-scenes tour where you can meet the makers. A few of the vineyards provide the opportunity to learn from the experts in a group setting or through a private tour. There are also numerous events throughout the summer and fall that include special winemaker’s dinners and festivals to commemorate the first wine of the new vintage. No takers for a designated driver? No problem. Charter a private wine-tasting tour through Coastal Tours, Untapped Sights & Tours, or Singapore Shuttles for worry-free transportation between wineries.
For a wine tasting experience that includes stunning views of Lake Michigan and the Saugatuck Harbor, take a Wine on the Water themed cruise on the Star of Saugatuck paddlewheel boat. Happening May through October, these relaxing cruises allow you to sit back and savor wine while an expert guides you through the tastings.
Wine lovers will also enjoy Saugatuck’s J. Petter Wine Gallery, a fine art gallery, artisan wine shop, and wine bar rolled into one unforgettable experience. Featuring over 20 wines by the glass as well as over 400 bottles of wine in their shop, their team of wine experts is eager to help find your new favorite wine while you peruse their dazzling artwork. World-class wines can also be savored at Borrowed Time, a delightful wine bar and small plates restaurant in Douglas. Wine offerings are updated frequently, as is their creative, seasonal menu. And be sure to visit Coast 236 Restaurant & Bar. Featuring an extensive wine list along with its approachable, coastal-inspired fare, this restaurant was honored by Wine Spectator with a 2021 Award of Excellence for its dedication to wine.
