SAUGATUCK, MI – MAY 26, 2021 –The Saugatuck Douglas Area Convention & Visitors Bureau (SDACVB) announced the recent honor of being named the “Best Beach Town in the Midwest” by Midwest Living magazine. This year, Midwest Living magazine launched its first-ever “Best of the Midwest” awards to honor the attractions and towns like Saugatuck that make the Midwest such a wonderful travel destination.

“We are honored to be recognized for the beautiful, award-winning beaches that make Saugatuck a much-loved beach town,” said Lisa Mize, Executive Director, Saugatuck Douglas Area Convention & Visitors Bureau. “With miles of Lake Michigan shoreline, our 5 pristine public beaches, famed historic dune landscape and our charming downtown boardwalks truly make the Saugatuck Douglas area beloved among our residents and visitors.”

During a very challenging tourism season last year, the SDCVB ensured that visitors were aware of safety precautions as well as marketing and promoting the businesses that were open and ready for visitors.  This included communicating a consistent message that the Saugatuck area was THE place to visit and enjoy safely (especially as a road trip destination) during the 2020 summer and fall season – through newsletters, paid advertising, social media posts, public relations and a new website.

“This accolade from Midwest Living is not only a testament to Saugatuck’s beautiful beaches but also a recognition of the hard work and dedication that our community and our CVB puts into ensuring that Saugatuck area is as special and unforgettable to our visitors as it is to us,” said Mize.
