Good to Know
Description
Location, location, location! While only a block from the famous Saugatuck/Douglas Harbor and its boating activities and watersports; a block from the fine art galleries, wine tasting rooms, fantastic shops and best-in-the-area restaurants of Downtown Douglas; less than a mile to Lake Michigan; and, finally a picturesque 15 minute stroll into the hustle and bustle of Downtown Saugatuck, The Pines Motorlodge boasts a spot on locale!
But it doesn’t end there… The Pines is not so much a vintage c.1958 motel in Saugatuck/Douglas, but rather, a delightful experience. This is a place for people who seek out the unexpected and who prefer charming personality to plastic room keys. Playing off the motel’s name, the guest rooms are decorated with knotty pine and cedar nuances and architectural twists. The rooms are clean, fresh, crisp and decorated in bright, cheerful colors. The beds, all pillow-tops, are decorated in enchanting, playful fabrics with fluffy comforters and countless pillows.
Outside the guest rooms, solid Amish-crafted Adirondack chairs whitewashed in sharp white contrast with the lime green of the building and flanked by large galvanized watering troughs converted to planters brimming with flowers and vegetation make each room feel special with its own outdoor space and patio. Further, a large central shaded deck lies center of the motor court and is the perfect place for guests to congregate, meet new friends, BBQ or read quietly with a glass of wine.
Even the property’s roadside sign, the location of many a last day photograph, was completely renovated to reflect a vintage charm and to honor the transition from motel to motor lodge with historic flare and reference. In keeping with the post-war theme, the motel’s front office is located in the “Groovy! Groovy! Retro Gift Gallery,” which specializes in merchandise that matches the flavor of the era. A weekend at the pines is truly transporting. The Pines Motorlodge, still groovy after 50 years!
