About this Sculpture
- Artist: Rado Kirov
- Medium: Hand formed stainless steel
- Size: 15" x 15" x 43"
Born in Bulgaria, Rado Kirov discovered a passion for metal art at an early age. He spent ten years apprenticing as a coppersmith, gaining both the education and hands-on experience that would shape his career as a professional metal artist.
When Rado later moved to South Africa, his creative direction evolved. He began working in product design and functional art, collaborating with interior designers and architects to bring metalwork into contemporary spaces.
After two decades of commercial art, Rado sought a new artistic outlet—and developed a signature technique he calls the “Mercury Effect.” This method involves heating stainless steel and hand-manipulating the surface until it ripples. Once polished to a mirror finish, the metal reflects its surroundings in a distorted way, drawing viewers into the shimmering surface. It’s a visual experience that shifts as you move, transforming the sculpture into a constantly changing expression of light, place, and presence.

Walk around the sculpture.
Notice that Pyramid has three sides, not four.
How are they different? How are they the same?
The shape remains the same from each angle, but each side reflects the different objects that surround the work.
Stand in front of one side.
Follow the reflection from top to bottom.
As the form widens toward the base, you’ll notice it reflects more of its surroundings.
Follow the light around the sculpture.
Notice how some areas catch the light more brightly than others.
This interplay of sun, shadow, and steel allows the beauty of nature to become part of the artwork.
