Aged To Perfection: Celebrating Local Milestones in 2025
Saugatuck/Douglas has long been home to incredible, unique businesses that add character and charm to our towns. This year, several of these beloved spots are marking milestone anniversaries worth celebrating. So, let’s raise a glass (or a fork or shopping bag) to their continued success!

A Toast to Fine Flavors
First on our list is Salt of the Earth, which turns sweet 16 in 2025. Known for its farm-to-table philosophy and rustic charm, it remains a favorite spot for those who appreciate quality ingredients and fresh flavors. Bowdie’s Chop House, known for its delicious steaks and intimate dining experience, is hitting its 10th anniversary and will be planning a special event to commemorate the occasion. Famous for its down-home comfort food, The Southerner is also celebrating a decade of bringing delectable biscuits, fried chicken dreams, and warm Southern hospitality to the Art Coast®. And, this June, Michigan Wine Company will be celebrating five years of crafting small-batch wine and cider along the lakeshore.

Iconic Art Institutions
The legendary Ox-Bow School of Art, which paved the way for our becoming the Art Coast of Michigan, will turn an astonishing 115 years old in 2025! Stay tuned for details on how they’ll commemorate this incredible milestone. Meanwhile, under Michael Burmeister’s leadership, Button Gallery will celebrate its 10th year of bringing compelling works of art to the area (though the gallery itself has been around for nearly six decades!).

Small Shops, Big Impact
Downtown Saugatuck/Douglas wouldn’t be the same without our quaint shops and boutiques—some of which are marking major anniversaries this year. Lakeshore Pet Boutique will be celebrating five years of spoiling furry friends with unique treats and toys, It Is What It Is turns 10 as a go-to shop for eclectic gifts and fun finds, and Back to the Fuchsia reaches 15 years of creating stunning floral arrangements for every occasion.
And we can’t forget about Landsharks, an Art Coast institution celebrating 35 years in business! A second-generation, family-run success story, Landsharks has navigated the changing retail world with creativity and heart. From outfitting visiting adventurers to shipping goods across the country, they’ve built a loyal customer following while always stepping up to support local community initiatives.

Standout Stays Worth Celebrating
A great getaway starts with a great place to stay, and these local favorites are reaching exciting anniversaries this year. Art Coast Properties celebrates three years in July, and Old Pike Cottages rings in five years of providing cozy waterfront escapes for guests. The Saugatuck Retro Resort turns 25 this year, continuing its tradition of offering nostalgic charm with modern comfort. And Holiday Hill Resort marks an incredible 70 years as a family-run destination—now four generations strong. Founded in 1954, this charming getaway with the self-proclaimed “best view in town” has decades of tradition and hospitality woven into its story.

Look Who’s Turning One
In addition to the well-established favorites mentioned above, newer businesses are also reaching a significant milestone worth acknowledging. Retro Bakery and Erica June Bakery each turn one this year, both serving up delicious treats that have already won the hearts (and taste buds) of visitors and locals. Forest Inn also marks its first anniversary in June, offering a tranquil and welcoming retreat just a short stroll from Lake Michigan. Singapore Room, celebrating one year in September, has brought a fresh take on Asian dining to the Art Coast with its vibrant atmosphere and flavorful menu. And last but not least, Lady Bird, which turns one in February, has already made a name for itself with its delicious chef-driven offerings and charming ambiance.
