Experience mandolin with Brian Oberlin in the SCA’s 55-seat listening room for an intimate evening of swing and bluegrass. Enjoy expressive modern classical works by masters such as Shostakovich, Prokofiev, Dvořák, Schnittke, and Sollima, alongside Oberlin’s original compositions. The program blends swing, bluegrass, and Italian classical influences, with select pieces featuring vocals.
Brian Oberlin is an internationally recognized mandolinist and educator from Grand Rapids, Michigan, with a career spanning swing, bluegrass, original, and classical music and over 20 albums. He has performed worldwide, collaborated with acclaimed ensembles, and founded the River of the West and Great Lakes Mandolin Camps while conducting the Michigan Mandolin Orchestra. Since 2003, he has focused on solo mandolin performance, appearing at festivals and academies across the U.S. and Europe. A dedicated educator, he teaches and leads workshops internationally. His latest album, Troubadour Anew, blends originals with classical and contemporary works.
