About this Sculpture

  • Artist: Kevin Barrett
  • Medium: Stainless Steel
  • Size: 45" x 10" x 116"

Kevin Barrett was born into a family of artists. His father, a sculptor, taught him to weld when he was just 14 years old, and his grandfather was an abstract painter. Surrounded by abstract sculpture and painting from the beginning, Barrett grew up steeped in the language of form and expression.

He received his first sculpture commission at the age of 18. After college, he opened a studio in Miami where he began restoring sculptures while also creating his own. Eventually, Barrett moved to New York City, working out of his Brooklyn studio for most of his career.

“Spending years in New York City, my work carries an urban attitude,” he says. “Graffiti was everywhere, energizing the city with its animated movement and youthful voice. This energy still influences the work I make today.”

Walk around the sculpture.

Look for the largest pieces of metal. Where are they placed?

Notice how each of them touches the base, coming together to form a triangle, creating a stable center and solid form. Even the base echoes this triangular form, grounding the work with intention.
