Whether you’re igniting a new romance or falling in love all over again, we have all the charm and ambiance for the perfect escape. Picnic on the beach with a basket of local culinary delights. Enjoy a sunset cruise on a schooner. Meander through our many art galleries. From enchanting escapades to laid-back interludes, this is the ideal place for a romantic retreat.
3-Day Winter Adventure
Day 1
Rent some snowshoes from Landsharks for a long wintry walk to admire the stunning views at the Saugatuck Natural Harbor Area. The rolling landscape of shifting sand, dune grass, and wetlands is a sight to behold during the colder months. Or, if cross-country skiing sounds like more your style, head to the trails of Saugatuck Dunes State Park and explore our winter wonderland. (Cross-country skis can also be rented from Landsharks.) Be sure to make a quick stop at Oval Beach and look for some unusual weather-related phenomena like “erupting” ice volcanoes and sculpted ice spheres along the shoreline.
Day 2
Dash through the snow in a horse-drawn open sleigh. Arrange for a 40-minute private sleigh ride through the woods with Wild West Ranch or a horse-drawn carriage ride at Rise & Ride Ranch for a romantic experience you both will never forget.
Then head to downtown Saugatuck and Douglas to bask in the glow of the twinkling lights as you stroll along our streets. Stop in a boutique or two, like Puddingstone and Kindel & Company Lifestyle Mercantile, to shop for one-of-a-kind treasures before grabbing dinner and a nightcap.
Day 3
Pamper yourselves with a couple’s massage at Bella Vita Spa, or schedule a private yoga class through Satya Yoga to stretch out those muscles. Then peruse our many galleries and artist’s studios, making sure to include Capizzo Gallery, Jeff Blandford Gallery, J. Petter Wine Gallery, Mr. Miller’s Art Emporium, Water Street Gallery, and the Ox-Bow House as part of your adventure. During the evening, take a drive through Crane Orchards to see their dazzling winter light show.

Sample the fruit of the vine with a stop at each of four local wineries and then hit the Lake Michigan Shore Wine Trail to try out other vineyards within driving distance.
Take a Craft Beverage Tour
Aside from wine, there are plenty of other great craft beverages to discover in our region. Home to two craft breweries, two craft cideries, and two craft spirit tasting rooms, you’ll find ample opportunities to toast each other.
Go Downhill Skiing
Enjoy the charming and relaxing atmosphere of Saugatuck/Douglas as your home base, and take the short hour’s drive (or less) to area ski resorts like Bittersweet and Cannonsburg.
